from the second i first listened to roxanna's debut single "unforgotten" i knew i had stumbled upon something special. with a voice that can send shivers down your spine, roxanna has really created a work of art. in its original version, the song is a latin-influenced power ballad of sorts. i can hear myself on a carribean cruise with a tropical drink in a coconut cup in hand, just feeling the breeze and enjoying life. lyrically it's about a failed relationship, but somehow "unforgotten" has a feeling of happiness. perhaps, it's the concept of never forgetting the love and how joyful it was at its peak.
the original version, however, is not as good as it gets. there is also a dance remix of "unforgotten" where the song truly comes to life. this one is an absolute smash! roxanna's voice stands out even more with the support of synths and a gorgeous dance beat, and "unforgotten" becomes a tune you'll never forget. if roxanna really wanted to be heard, she'd hit up cat music office or roton because the dance remix of "unforgotten" would fit in perfectly with their catalog (she'd have the support of a hot label and good promo in romania, where this kind of dance music is most popular).
we are definitely looking forward to roxanna's upcoming releases! i pray she sticks with the dance sound, at least as an alternate version to each song. below are some links to roxanna around the web!

irina interview!
recently i got a chance to sit down with "something about you" singer irina. i put together this fun little interview and she answered all the questions! i certainly learned a lot about her myself, so here it is for everyone to enjoy!
-----
short bio
- full name: irina shapiro
- favorite color: red and white
- favorite food: vegetarian food.
- song(s) stuck in your head recently: ''sweet nothing'' by calvin harris
- something you support: i support old people, and kids without families.
- something that annoys you to no end: my character. :)))
- your motto: never give up!
- "something about you" that nobody would ever guess: i’ve never tried any drugs or smoked any cigarettes, my life is music language.
- "something about you" that you love: crazy sexy drive!
- "something about you" that has changed recently: my mood.
questions
- tell us about your debut single, something about you. what did you think when you first heard the finished song?
i was so so upset for the first time, usually artists behave like that, but right after i started listening to it again and again i realized that it’s a single, my first single!
- what was it like to film the video? tell us the best and worst parts of the process.
that was so magical, everything was so exciting! it was very hard to dance on the chair when there was a huge hot hot projector light behind me, and the sexiest part is dancing in the rain! so extremely emotional!
- how sexy did you feel dancing on that chair?
haha! very sexy like a scrambled egg, in a sexy black catsuit! haha! very sexy, i was trying to engender the feeling of excitement for a man.
- what do you think about the remixes for something about you? if you had to choose a favorite one, which would it be?
i love all the remixes of say they are really all great and it depends on your actual mood. all dj's are great personalities. i am so blessed to work with these people!
- out of all the tracks you've put out on your soundcloud, which one would you say is the most close and personal to you?
you know, all the tracks were written in such different moments of my life, but still they’re all about love and hope. all of them maybe contain a major sign of love but they are all about different intentions, different situations and stories…
- tell us about your next single one last kiss. is it anything like something about you?
olk was written by dave aude, luciana corposo, her husband nick, and i. there was such a great vibe and such great positive energy co-writing with them! it’s a strong title for anyone who is in love, or who is broken up and waiting for a miracle. it gives hope, big hope for a better future that is waiting for us all right now! what can be better than to give hope? and majorly, it’s about love which is a big salvation for our nation right now!
- if you had one last kiss, who would it be with?
haha, this is a big secret. ;)
- tell us about your traveling. do you have a home in both russia and the usa? where do you spend the most time lately?
i'm irina global, i live in miami and los angeles mostly. :) also russia, in moscow, but only for a few months in a year.
- what would you say is the biggest difference between being in russia and being in the usa?
i’m a vegetarian, haha, but if you want me to be hilarious, i think it’s mcdonald's! here in moscow it’s much tastier than in the usa. haha, pardon me! honestly being in the usa for me means to run towards success and freedom!
- the most internationally known russian musical act is t.a.t.u. - are you a fan? do you have any favorite tracks by them?
they were a great group in the past with huge possibilities…unfortunately i grew up on a different level of music culture. i'm proud that they are the first russians to take over in the usa, but for me it’s a pure example of when two big personalities can’t share the trophy of fame and glory between each other. it is sad, and i hope they’ll reunite one day.
- what is your goal with your music? is there a certain thing you want to accomplish with it?
i want to sing about love passion and all that contain the word love! i want to fill people with great energy and great positive feelings, as well as hope and belief! i think it’s major in life to have someone who can fill you with that!
- tell us about an album. do you plan to release one soon?
yes, i have a lot of songs for an album, but for now we are thinking about the strategy. :)
- what would you like to say to all of your fans who read this?
i love you, i need you, and thank you for all your kind support! all i want to do is make this complicated world a little bit better, fill the air with love and passion, and engender more positive energy in the hearts of human beings!

irina
not all mixes in a remix package can be terrific, and "something about you" follows that paradigm. the automatic panic remix has an unfitting breakdown that throws the whole thing off, and the eddie amador remix sounds generic at best. things get a bit better with the bill hamel remix, which does awesome work on the verses with a pounding synth riff and only stumbles when it comes to the prechorus and chorus where that synth riff is suddenly dropped for some reason. razor n guido provide the classic house sound that they are known and appreciated for, giving the track a whole new feel. however, they are outshined by two other outstanding remixers.
released separately from the rest, the dave aude remix is a beautifully executed mix that takes advantage of the song's composition and gives us pure dancefloor fun! adding a pitbull-esque "ooh baby, baby!" vocal bit, dave takes the song to the next level with no apparent flaws. this remix could stand on its own as a single, without any of the other versions. even so, the song does not reach its absolute full potential here - a feat only accomplished by the absolutely stunning and transcendent bimbo jones remix. standing out above the rest from the very first listen, this remix is exactly what the song was meant to be. the verses are ideally tame, building up to the perfectly contrasting prechorus and chorus. piano-synths have never sounded so sublime as they do here, and combined with the intertwined techno elements, have an almost trance-like affect. this is the perfect mix to blast while you lose yourself to the music and dance like there's no tomorrow. needless to say, this one is getting the most plays from me.
while "something about you" is her only official single as of yet, irina still has an album's worth of music out there for people to sample. visit her soundcloud (linked below) to hear more of her material as well as all of the "something about you" mixes. a few standout tracks...
n 2 u - a catchy tune that is somewhat reminiscent of 90's pop hits.
blow by blow - a powerful song with a hook that britney would kill for. it will be stuck in your head!
fall like the rain - a midtempo song with mysteriously whispered russian bits. with some good strong strings in the chorus this song could be her breakout hit.
electrostatic pressure - just as good as any of j-lo's recent hit singles with a dance breakdown similar to something by redone.
control me - on the first listen it doesn't sound too special, but it has grown on me and is now my favorite tracks of hers. i've had it on repeat for a long time now! something about the way she sings it combined with the fact that it's a perfect track to begin with...i am just in love with this one.

margo rey - habit
margo rey (also known as margo reymundo, or simply margo) has become known in a certain part of the indie music scene and for a good reason. she has a strong voice that can smoothly deliver any genre she decides to tackle. her early beginnings in the electronic group evolve show her talent with downtempo, almost trance-like music. her debut album, my heart’s desire, shows how she can beautifully create acoustic and rock tunes. the dance remixes of her two singles “get back” and “habit” show how perfectly her voice fits club music. when i received her second album, “habit”, i knew i was in for a treat!
the album starts off with the title track, “habit”. this album version is a slow moving alternative song with elements of country music. it’s certainly a nice take on the song, but nothing compares to the glorious remixes by tracy young, mike bordes, and klubjumpers that hit the clubs back in 2010! this song was destined to be a club banger, and while i am happy to hear the original version, it leaves no impression after hearing those mixes. the next track is “let the rain” which sets a lovely mood of sitting at home on a rainy day with a cup of tea. margo’s voice and its delicious vibrato are enough to make you drift away to another world. next up is a second take on “between us”, which originally appeared on her debut album and was one of my favorites. the two versions are very similar with the new one having more of a country feel and being slightly more upbeat. the original version is still my version of choice however.
things really start to pick up with the next track, “get back”! this was the other track that was treated to a full remix package. however, unlike “habit”, this one truly shines in its original version! it’s an 80’s disco-influenced jam that will be playing over and over in your head. the production is flawless and margo’s sassy delivery makes it my favorite track on the album. another second take is next, with “i saw you (again and again)”, a new version of “i saw you” from the debut. she beats the original this time, with a fun new version that had me forgetting what the original sounded like. continuing the streak of hits is “i’ll give my heart”, a happy love song that anyone can enjoy. the last re-interpretation is next with “couldn’t be more wrong”, but this one falls short. what tries to be an acoustic chill-out jam, turns into an acoustic dragged-out mess. the only saving grace is margo’s unfailing vocals, which she interestingly whispers at parts. the next track, ”saturn returns”, almost fades into the previous one with just the chorus keeping it from being a complete snoozer.
margo can’t seem to disappoint for too long, because the next track is something completely new for her! “pla$tic karma”, as it is stylized on the back of the cd sleeve, is a lyrical gem about materialism and love and how the two things don’t mix well. it’s groovy to say the least! “roses” is somewhat blunt with the opening lyrics “roses are red/violets are blue/this is a song about me and you.” it makes heavy use of violins and harmonicas for a country feel more apparent than any other track on the album. it’s not exactly what i’ve come to hope for from margo, but luckily the last 3 tracks put things right back on track! “10 reasons” sounds like a deleted track from the first album and has a fun hook while “you’ll be coming back” is sultry and sexy with latin elements. the album closer, “she’s not there” is a radio-friendly rock song that ends the album on a high note.
like any album, “habit” has its ups and downs. some of margo’s experimenting with sounds doesn’t exactly work out like she probably hoped it would. however, that only adds to the charm of this collection of songs. throughout the whole thing, hit or miss, margo’s personality shines through during each and every second. there is a track to channel whatever mood you may be in, which is a rare quality for an album and i have already found this one to be just as special to me as her first. to sum things up, listening to this album is sure to become an insatiable “habit” – it has for me!

alexandra stan - lollipop
alexandra stan, the singer behind the smash hit mr. saxobeat, released one single called lollipop before making it big. this is it, and it has a lot of the same themes as mr. saxobeat with a saxophone dance riff and a super catchy chorus. this single was sort of experimental, and didn't become that big of a hit...but it is definitely one of her best songs so far! it has been stuck in my head for quite a while so i'm posting it now, in perfect 320kbps. included is the club version which is more of an alternate version than anything else, but fun to hear. enjoy!
